Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals - now open

The new Royal National ENT and Eastman Hospitals is now open on Huntley Street. The hospital treats conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat and mouth including dental, hearing, speech and balance services.

Bringing the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and the Eastman Dental Hospital together in a new state-of-the-art building means we have created one of the largest specialist centres for the treatment of conditions relating to the head and neck, including dental, ear, nose and throat (ENT), and hearing speech and balance.

Located close by to University College Hospital and the Macmillan Cancer Centre, we will be able to provide an integrated service for our patients in a modern, purpose built environment, continue our reputations for world leading care.

A small number of services remain at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital on Gray’s Inn Road as we complete our new Cancer and Surgery facility on Grafton Way. They are wards, theatres, sleep diagnostics and allergy day case services.

Services are based in two floors below ground, and five above ground. Two floors are dedicated to dental treatment, an entire floor is provided for children and young people, and patients with ENT, sleep, speech, hearing and balance issues will be seen in modern surroundings with integrated pathways and services.

We are really proud of the heritage themes in the new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals. The façade includes the Duveen Memorial stone from the Royal Ear Hospital (which was demolished to enable the construction of the new building). An arts and heritage project based on the memories of staff and patients will create art for the interior of the new facility, and in March 2018 patients and staff contributed to a time capsule which is encased within the entrance of the new facility. The content of the capsule commemorated innovations in treatments and services, with a model of cochlear ear implant, dental moulds and plain film x-rays amongst the items. 

Which services are moving?

All Eastman Dental Hospital services are moving. Clinics open from 1 October 2019.

All outpatient services from the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital are moving. The following services are not moving: theatres, wards, sleep diagnostics and allergy services.

The Royal National ENT Hospital outpatient clinics open during the week commencing 7 October 2019.

  • When you arrive

    Please use the main entrance on Huntley Street. On the ground floor you will find check-in kiosks. Please use these to confirm you have arrived. The kiosk will advise you want floor your appointment is on. If you are early, you may wait on the ground floor and then, nearer to appointment time, make your way to the floor where your appointment is taking place. There are stairs and lifts at the north end of the building.

    When you arrive on the clinical floor, please go through the entrance doors and let the reception team know you have arrived. They will advise you where to wait, near to where you will see you clinical team.

    You will be called to your appointment either by an electronic message screen or by a member of staff themselves. Handheld buzzer are also available.

    What is a dispensation notice?

    It is a Camden Council’s parking scheme for patients attending University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). Areas in Camden, south of the Euston Road, are not covered by the national Blue Badge disabled parking scheme. If you want to park near, or in UCLH disabled parking bays, you will need to apply for a parking dispensation to use with your Blue Badge. A dispensation notice is required for parking in and around the main UCH site, EGAH and UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre sites only. Dispensation notices are not required for: NHNN/Queens Square, RNTNEH, RLHIM, UCHWMS and EDH.

    How to apply for a parking dispensation

    On your first visit to University College Hospital or the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre you need to park your car and bring the following to the reception desk:

    • Your Blue Badge
    • Your vehicle registration number
    • Proof of hospital attendance letter, showing appointment time and date, e.g. clinic appointment letter.

    Please note: Dispensations are only issued to UCLH patients with Blue Badges who are attending hospital outpatient appointments, day cases and the Emergency Department. They are not issued to carers, relatives, visitors or friends who are Blue Badge holders bringing a non-Blue Badge holder patient to an appointment. Dispensation notices are not issued to inpatients, overnight parking is not permitted.

  • Travelling by bus or tube

    Buses 14, 24, 73, 134 and 390 serve Tottenham Court Road north and southbound. The 73 (toward Oxford Circus) and the 390 (to Victoria) will stop outside University College Hospital on Euston Road.

    The nearest underground stations are Euston Square (Circle, Hammersmith and City and Metropolitan lines), Warren Street (Vicotria and Northern Lines) and Goodge Street (Northern Line).
