Substantive Consultant Neuroanaesthesia posts

We are currently expanding, both in theatres and critical care, on our Surgical and Medical Intensive Therapy Units. As a result, it may be necessary to further increase the number of substantive consultant posts within our department prior to the completion of this project. Any further substantive or locum consultant posts will be advertised on via UCLH and on the NHS Jobs website.

Locum Consultant Neuroanaesthesia posts

We are currently expanding our theatre and intensive care unit capacity. It is likely that we will need further locum consultants both in anaesthesia and critical care in the near future. Please keep an eye on the UCLH and NHS Jobs websites for locum consultant posts.

Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care fellowship programme

We offer a one-year fellowship programme, incorporating nine months neuroanaesthesia and three months' neurocritical care. Training is tailored to The RoyalCollege of Anaesthetists (RCOA) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) 2010 Advanced Training in Neuroanaesthesia as well as incorporating aspects of the SNACC [Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care] fellowship guidelines published in 2013. We are also an accredited centre for the ICPNT Neuroscience fellowship programme

This fellowship is most suited to anaesthetic registrars who wish to pursue a career in Neuroanaesthesia and have already completed their intermediate training in Neuroanaesthesia.

Our hospital provides a neurosurgical service for a large and diverse patient population. At present we have over 4,000 elective surgical admissions per year including neurosurgery, complex spinal surgery and interventional neuroradiology. We have separate neurosurgical and neuromedical intensive care units as well as an interventional MRI suite and the only dedicated centre for patients with neuromuscular disease in the UK. We provide care for a diverse patient population, both national and international and are the main referral centre in London for skull base surgery and neuro-oncology .

The fellowship programme is divided into six modules covering all aspects of neurosurgery, complex spinal surgery and interventional neuroradiology. In addition there is an opportunity to develop skills in peri-operative medicine, neurophysiology and neuroradiology. The department runs a weekly teaching programme, including journal club, tailored to meet the demands of RCOA CCT 2010. As well as developing the necessary clinical skills required for a consultant neuroanaesthetist, we offer the opportunity to continue to develop skills and knowledge in medical education, clinical governance, research and management.

Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care Fellowships are normally advertised biannually in December/January or June/July, however it is wise to keep a close eye on the British Medical Journal (BMJ) careers section and www.jobs.nhs.uk, as fellowships may arise at any time.”
