Induction

When you join UCLH you will attend our corporate induction programme with other new recruits. The programme introduces our vision and values, explores why patient and staff experience is important, gives you information to ensure your safety and the safety of others at work, and outlines the range of discounts and benefits available to UCLH employees. This will be followed by a local induction in your local ward or department.

Electronic Health Records (Epic) and Mandatory training

We are committed to supporting staff to fulfil their statutory and professional obligations to keep their knowledge and skills up to date, reduce the risk of injury to themselves, and to keep our patients safe. Most of our Epic training is delivered by live virtual classroom and the majority of our mandatory training is available as e-learning.  We aim to provide new starters with access to the UCLH Learning Portal prior to their start date and support the portability of mandatory training across NHS organisations where possible.

Development opportunities

We offer a range of in-house courses and programmes ranging from personal and skills development (including quality improvement training) through to people management and leadership development. We offer fully-funded apprenticeship qualifications for staff at all levels to support their personal and career development, and have over 25 different programmes ranging from entry level to Master’s qualifications. We also have an internal coaching and mentoring service that all staff can access.

Grants for professional development

Staff can apply for individual grants to support their professional development on external courses.

University College Hospital Education Centre

The Education Centre's facilities provide opportunities for healthcare professionals at every level to learn, enhance and optimise clinical skills and medical knowledge through experiential learning.

Whether the aim is to demonstrate pioneering surgical techniques, master minimal access procedures or simply improve routine clinical practice and patient management, the Education Centre delivers the highest standards of education using leading-edge technologies and methods.
