We provide a wide range of general paediatric services, led by a team of enthusiastic consultants and dedicated nurses.

We provide Emergency Care via accident & emergency for all ages. We care for children & young people with a wide range of conditions.  There is a daily general clinic where we see all the common paediatric problems. The department also offers a number of specialty clinics including:


There is also a daily rapid access clinic were children with urgent outpatient problems can be seen by a senior paediatrician within 48 hours.

The facilities for children and young people at UCLH are outstanding. We have dedicated wards and outpatient clinics for children aged 0 to 12 years and separate areas for young people  aged 13 to 18 years old.

We are currently running as many consultations as possible by telephone or video but are able to see urgent cases face to face every morning.

If a child or adolescent requires an urgent appointment, GPs can refer to our rapid referral clinic. This is a pre-booked service via e-referrals.

GPs should not hesitate to telephone 07803 853 567 if they would find telephone advice helpful ahead of the referral.

Acutely ill child, who needs immediate attention – should be sent directly to an Emergency Department (A&E) . Please note that during the Covid 19 pandemic the UCLH Paediatric Emergency Department is temporarily diverted to neighbouring hospitals. Please therefore use the closest Paediatric Emergency Department that is open.

For a baby with prolonged jaundice (14-20 days):

  • if the child is otherwise well, please refer to the ANNP clinic on the neonatal unit by contacting 07903 358839.
  • if the child is also unwell, please refer to the closest Paediatric Emergency Department.

For a baby with prolonged jaundice (21+ days), refer to the rapid referral clinic

We have a large outpatient service having roughly 5000 appointments per year. There are around 17,000 attendances per year in our Paedaitric A&E where we meet national targets on waiting times.
 
Waiting times for the majority of our clinics are between 1-4 weeks.

We have a comprehensive range of supporting services that help improve the quality of care and hospital experience for children. These include:

  • A large play specialist team 
  • A dedicated psychological services team consisting of clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and psychiatrists
  • Specialist nurses provide support and advice for the speciality clinics
  • Social services team
