Nurse assessment process

We advertise all of our nursing vacancies on our website. To apply for our posts you need to submit an online application via our trust website or NHS jobs. Please ensure you read the advert text fully as this may include the assessment date you will be required to attend, if shortlisted.

Our assessment centre comprises of three elements and you will need to be successful at all three to be offered a post with UCLH.

Drug calculation test

This is an unseen, 30-minute exam where you will have a set number of questions to answer.

Clinical scenario

You will be assessed through a written clinical based scenario, that is designed to test your nursing competencies. The assessment is for 30 minutes. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹Feedback will be provided at the end of the assessment by an assessor.

Should you be successful in the assessment, you will be contacted by the department or the nursing recruitment team with the outcome of your application.

Interview

Your interview panel will comprise of senior members of staff from your preferred area and HR. Lasting between 30 to 45 minutes, you will be asked competency based questions which aim to allow you to demonstrate your skills and abilities.

If you are offered a post, you will then be contacted by recruitment with a conditional offer letter that outlines all the pre-employment checks that need to be completed prior to you starting. We aim to complete these checks within two weeks and you will then be issued your unconditional offer from recruitment. With this, you can arrange a start date on your ward.

Please note: if you are unsuccessful, you'll be given feedback on the day of areas to improve from our clinical practice facilitators.
