Patients have been able to view clinic letters in MyCare UCLH since 2019, but from June 2025 you will also be able to view your complete appointment letter as well. This guide explains how to view both types of letters.
Please note that you will only be able to see appointment letters for appointments that have been made or changed after the 10th of June 2025 in MyCare.
Types of letters
There are several different types of letters that you could receive about your care at UCLH:
Clinic Letters are summaries of outpatient appointments; hospital stays or explanations of test results that are written by healthcare professionals at UCLH. Usually both your GP and you will both receive a copy of your clinic letter. You can find clinic letters in the Clinic Letters menu in MyCare.
Appointment Letters inform you of the date and time of upcoming outpatient clinic appointments as well as contain any special instructions that you might need to follow before that appointment. You can find appointment letters in the Appointment Letters menu in MyCare.
Please note that letters informing you of an upcoming surgery are generated slightly differently and these can be found in the Clinic Letters menu.
Viewing a new Clinic Letter
Whenever you receive a new clinic letter, or letter informing you of surgery you are sent an email notification (or a push notification to your mobile device if you use the app).
If you click on the “Log in to MyCare UCLH” button you will be taken to the MyCare home page.
There will be a line on the news feed which will refer to the new letter that has been received. You can click on the “View Letter” button to be taken directly to it.
You can then view the letter you have been sent.
Clicking on the printer symbol in the top right-hand corner of the letter will allow you to print the letter out (if you have a printer connected to your device) or save it as a PDF.
Using Shortcuts and the Main Menu to access Clinic Letters
You can also view your clinic letters by clicking on the shortcut from the MyCare home screen (if you have not customized your shortcut buttons to remove it).
If you click on the main menu button in the mobile app or the website,
you can also access the clinic letter activity under the Communication heading.
When you access the Letters activity via either the main menu or the home page shortcut you will be taken to the letters page. Here you can see all the clinic letters that have been sent to you.
Letters that you have not yet read will be marked in bold and will have a blue dot next to them. Clicking on a letter will open where it can be printed or downloaded as appropriate.
Viewing a new Appointment Letter
Whenever you receive a new appointment letter you again get a notification via email or on your mobile device.
If you click on the “Log in to MyCare UCLH” button you will be taken directly to your appointment letter.
You can print the letter by pressing CTRL+P or right clicking on the screen and selecting “Print”. On your mobile you can tap the three dots in the top right hand corner of the screen and select “Print”.
Using Shortcuts and the Main Menu to access Appointment Letters
Unlike Clinic Letters, Appointment Letters are received into MyCare as messages and are therefore found in a different location to clinic letters.
From the MyCare Home Screen you can click on the “Appointment Letters” shortcut or from the main menu you can select the same shortcut from under the “Communication” heading.
On the MyCare Website
Navigate to the “Appointments” folder. All your Appointment letters will be stored in this folder. Unread messages will be in bold. The number of unread messages is indicated by the number on the left-hand side of the screen.
On the MyChart App
From the Message Centre page click on the down arrow next to “Conversations” this lets you select which message folder in the app that you are looking at. Select “Appointments”.
You will then be able to read your appointment letters. Unread appointment letters are bold and will have a little blue dot next to them.
