Food allergy affects nearly 10% of young children in the UK.

A diagnosis of food allergy has a considerable impact on a child and the everyday life of their whole family. Allergic reactions are often mild, but they can sometimes be very serious.
It is vital that all allergies are correctly identified and treated and that children and families know exactly how to recognise and treat allergic reactions, and manage their allergy.

We provide a service for the diagnosis and management of a wide range of allergic disorders, including:

  • Immediate reactions to foods
  • Delayed reactions to food
  • Food allergy syndrome
  • Allergies to aeroallergens
  • Pet allergy
  • Urticaria
  • Allergic reaction with no clear cause

Our team provides families with expert advice, diagnostic tests and practical help all within a single visit to our clinic which is held on a Thursday morning in our paediatric and adolescent friendly out patient department on the lower ground floor of the EGA wing (entrance on Grafton Way).

Our service offers a full range of allergy diagnostic tests, including skin prick test (see below for more information) and/or blood tests for specific IgE responses. Food challenges may also be arranged as a day-case admission.

We provide families with comprehensive information on avoiding allergen exposure and the treatment of allergic disease. This is supported by patient literature and written emergency management plans so allergic reactions can be safely managed at home, in child-care settings and school.

We have a specialist allergy dietician present in all clinics and play specialists to make the experience as stress free as possible.
