About the Friends

The Friends of the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM) is a registered charity (No.269289) run by its members and volunteers.

The FRIENDS is the charity of the RLHIM which has been a flagship for an integrated approach to patient-centred healthcare in the NHS since 1948 - combining the best of conventional and complementary medicine to help patients of all age groups - many with chronic and long-term medical conditions. The Friends have been raising funds to provide support to the hospital’s patients and staff since 1975.

What We Do at RLHIM

Most people know us through our Snack Bar volunteers, but this is only one of the ways in which we raise funds to cover the needs of the hospital; from providing the drinking water unit and the digital information screen, through to funding innovative research projects, like the self-care initiative and the Patient Recorded Outcome Measures (PROMS) survey.

We also:

  • provide information to patients and the general public
  • promote interest and support for the hospital
  • represent patients’ views and their needs and preferences to policy makers
  • work with other organisations, both in the UK and Europe
