The Upper GI service provides treatment for, amongst other conditions, oesophageal and gastric cancers as well as for benign conditions (acid reflux and motility disorders). There is close collaboration with the GI physiology and laser centre.

Upper gastrointestinal cancer

The upper gastrointestinal cancer unit provides surgical treatment for all cancers of the oesophagus and stomach in the North London Cancer Network. In addition, the unit has vast experience in the management of benign conditions.

The unit is made up of three consultant surgeons, established clinical nurse specialists and an enhanced recovery nurse, as well as a dedicated dietician and ward staff.

The unit has very close links with the oncology department at University College Hospital, and medical and surgical teams in the other North London hospitals.

Conditions treated:

  • Stomach cancer
  • Oesophageal cancer
  • Gastro-intestinal stroma tumours of the upper intestinal tract.
