Our cancer waiting times team manage all urgent suspected cancer referrals from GPs. From the moment we get them, we track the referrals. We aim to process your referral quickly so that:
- If you get a cancer diagnosis you’ll start treatment as soon as possible, or
- We’ll discharge you back to your GP if we don’t find cancer
Our goal is that everyone experiences a prompt, efficient and well-coordinated pathway.
You’ll be seen by specialists in the type of cancer your GP suspects you have. All are rapid-access clinics. We always offer appointments as soon as possible after your referral. You should get the results of any tests within 28 days of us getting your referral.
Some services run 'one-stop clinics'. At these clinic you may have tests on the same day as your first appointment with a specialist. These clinics are available for people with the following suspected cancers:
- Breast
- Colorectal (bowel)
- Gynaecological
- Head and neck
- Prostate
If you’re booked into one of these clinics, we’ll give you more information about it beforehand.
