Professional background
Surangi Mendis is a consultant in audiovestibular medicine and neuro-otology at The Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals, UCLH. She graduated from King’s College London in 2009 and whilst at medical school also undertook an intercalated BSc in infectious diseases and immunobiology. After completion of general practice training on the Lewisham VTS scheme, she worked in general practice before going on to complete higher specialist training in audiovestibular medicine on the pan-London programme. She has experience in the diagnosis and management of vestibular, hearing and tinnitus complaints.
Surangi is particularly passionate about empowering patients to take ownership of their own health condition(s) and is a medical writer for the patient information platform, patient.info. She is a team-player who is involved in service improvement and teaching of audiovestibular medicine clinicians in training.
Surangi was twice the recipient of The British Association of Audiovestibular Physicians (BAAP) national audit prize. She has co-authored a book chapter on the diagnostics of third mobile window disorders and has written online training modules for junior ENT and audiovestibular clinicians, including contributions to the European Academy of Neurology e-Brain e-learning resource.
