Professional background
Alastair Dick is a dual fellowship trained consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in all aspects of hip surgery at University College London Hospital. He has specific interests in young adult hip disorders and high-performance hip replacement surgery.
He graduated from Imperial College London with an intercalated BSc in surgery and anaesthesia. He undertook specialist orthopaedic training on the South-East Thames rotation gaining comprehensive training in lower limb surgery including major trauma centre experience in the management of complex polytrauma and pelvic trauma. He was awarded his fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2017. To further enhance his skills and training he undertook subspecialist fellowship training in hip arthroplasty in Bournemouth and hip preservation surgery at Guy’s Hospital in London. He was awarded the Zimmer Biomet BOTA Travelling Fellowship in 2019 to gain further experience at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Mr Dick holds two higher degrees - an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedics and an MA in Clinical Education. He is an honorary Associate Professor at University College London. He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Hip Society and ISHA – The Hip Preservation Society. He reviews regularly for prestigious journals including the British Medical Journal, The Bone and Joint Journal and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He is the Trust lead for hip fractures implementing data driven improvement in care via the National Hip Fracture Database. Mr Dick has specific expertise in minimally invasive periacetabular osteotomy, hip arthroscopy and complex arthroplasty in the young.
