Professional background

Mr Dwivedi is a full-time consultant ear, nose, throat (ENT) / head and neck surgeon at UCLH. He is also an honorary clinical associate professor at the University College London. Prior to joining UCLH in 2019 he was a consultant head and neck surgeon at QEUH Glasgow.

He completed ENT / head and neck surgery specialty training with CCTs from the UK and India and gained a wide range of experience in treating all aspects of general adult and paediatric ENT disorders. He also completed two advanced fellowships in head and neck surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals and QA Hospital Portsmouth, UK.

He gained further experience by visiting centers of excellence in the USA and Canada, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre-New York, Mount Sinai Hospital-Toronto, University of Alberta and University of Western Ontario, Canada. This brings an international outlook to his current clinical practice.

He has expertise in the management and surgical treatment of all aspects of benign and malignant head neck / ENT conditions including salivary glands, thyroid /parathyroid, adult airway and laser surgery. He also has special interests in minimally invasive ENT/head and neck surgery.

He is actively involved in research and has successfully led several research projects within the UK and overseas. He holds a PhD in head and neck surgery from the prestigious Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, London.

He has won several international awards for his work on functional outcomes in head and neck cancers. This includes Young Investigator Award from the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS), fellowship grants from the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) / University of Pittsburg, USA, the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the Outstanding Clinician-Scientist Award from CARF, India.

He actively mentors students and has co-supervised several masters and PhD students.

Research interests

His research interests include head neck oncology, salivary glands, thyroid /parathyroid, voice/swallowing problems, minimally invasive/laser surgery, airway management, neck lumps, general ENT conditions.

Publications

To date he has published over 85 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed more than 20 chapters in major head & neck and ENT books, including “Scott-Brown’s Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery” and “Principles and Practice of Head Neck Surgery and Oncology”. He has co-edited two head & neck surgery books and is co-founder of a book series “Head and Neck Cancer Clinics”. 

He serves on the editorial board of several specialty journals including “Clinical Otolaryngology” and “The Otorhinolaryngologist” and has been scientific reviewer for more than 40 peer-reviewed journals including BMJ, JNCI, Cancer, Head Neck, Laryngoscope, Oral Oncology and Surgical Oncology.
