Information alert

If you need a large print, audio, braille, easy-read, age-friendly or translated copy of this page, email the patient information team at uclh.patientinformation@nhs.net. We will do our best to meet your needs.

What happens after seeing the doctor?

Your doctor will decide whether you need any follow up, by telephone or face to face, or whether your results can be communicated to you in a letter.

Discharge

If you don't need any follow up, you will receive a letter with you results and a plan for your GP. You can also access your results via the MyCare online portal.

Telephone clinic

If needed, we will organise a telephone appointment to check up on your symptoms and our results. You and your GP will receive a letter in the post and on MyCare summarising the call.

The call will come form an unknown number so please ensure your phone is configured to receive calls from unknown numbers. Please be aware that although we endeavour to call you at your appointment time, sometimes calls may be delayed.

What if I miss the call?

If we can't get through to you by phone, we will write you and your GP a letter which you will also be able to access via MyCare.

Please be aware we aim to see people as soon as possible, however, on busy days this process can take over 4 hours.

Consultant clinic

If the doctor who sees you feels you need to be seen again, then they will book you in to another face to face appointment.

Admission

If you are unwell and the doctor feels you need admission to hospital, then this will be discussed in the appointment.

How long does it take to get results?

Routine bloods will usually take 24-48 hours. These include blood tests to check your kidneys, liver and inflammation markers. More specialist tests may take 2 weeks or more.

Where do I provide urine/stool samples?

Whilst waiting for the doctor, you can provide urine or stool samples requested by the nurse and drop them off in ‘the sample room’. This can be found next to the toilets by following the purple arrows. If you cannot produce a sample, you can drop them off in the sample room another day or post it to the address found below. Please ask us for advice on how to post your samples.

You can attend our walk-in clinic without an appointment or referral (even without access to public funds) if:
