Professional background

I qualified in Medicine at the University of Edinburgh with a First Class Honours Degree in Neuroscience and worked in Scotland and Yorkshire before coming to London to work in the Institute of Neurology as a Research fellow in 1999. I obtained my MD from the University of London working With Professor Alan Thompson on a long term study looking at magnetic resonance imaging markers in Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. I completed my specialist training in London and the South East and have worked as a consultant neurologist at both Whipps Cross Hospital and at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, since 2008. I have a strong interest in General Neurology and my sub-speciality interests are in Autonomic Neurology and Multiple Sclerosis. I run general neurology clinics at both Whipps Cross and NHNN and take a leading role in the specialist Autonomic Neurology Service at NHNN along with my colleagues, Dr Iodice and Dr Hagen.

I am also clinical lead for neurology at Whipps Cross University Hospital.

Specialties

Research interests

My primary research was in multiple scleorsis, but while retaining an interest in this area I have become increasingly involved in supporting autonomic research as a consultant in the NHNN Autonomic Unit. The special interests of that service include, autoimmune autonomic neuropathy, spinal injury, multiple system atrophy and the postural tachycardia syndrome.
