Professional background

Steffi Thust is a consultant in diagnostic neuroradiology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and University College Hospital. Steffi has wide-ranging expertise in brain and spine imaging, including advanced MRI and paediatric neuroradiology. She is the Clinical Lead for Neuro-Oncology Imaging and holds a joint research appointment as Honorary Associate Professor with the UCL IoN Department for Brain Rehabilitation and Repair.

Steffi graduated with distinction from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany and obtained an MD magna cum laude. She completed clinical radiology training at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals and on the Pan-London Neuroradiology Fellowship programme, with an acting consultant post at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.

Steffi’s research topics include the investigation of diffusion-weighted imaging for glioma genotyping, computational methods for tumour characterisation and quantitative imaging of CNS lymphoma. She is co-author of numerous publications, scientific papers and reference works, including the official textbook of the European Society of Neuroradiologists (ESNR).

Her recent roles include membership of the UCL Advanced Neuroimaging MSc committee, the BSNR Academic Subcomittee and UCLH Clinical Effectiveness Steering Group, Lead Consultant for Clinical Governance and Panel Coordinator for the Royal College of Radiologists Fellowship Exams. Steffi is passionate about teaching and recently established a sponsorship programme for international medical graduates at Queen Square.
