Professional background

MIss Shalini Chawla has been a consultant obstetrician since 2016 and is the Postnatal Lead at UCLH. She works regularly on labour ward covering both emergencies and elective work. She has a background of postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology (UK) and General Surgery (India), with advanced training in maternal medicine. 

Miss Chawla is passionate about empowering women to make informed choices and runs the antenatal clinic at UCLH offering various options available to them. She is kind and empathetic and provides a high level of care supporting women through pregnancy, birth and postnatal period. 

She is the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology college tutor for UCLH and training program director for Foundation doctors at UCLH. She has a special interest in Postgraduate Medical Education with expertise in providing pastoral care to junior doctors. She regularly teaches on the ‘Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma’ course.  

She has additional leadership and management responsibility as the divisional rota lead and has ensured safe running of maternity services through the pandemic and junior doctor strikes and is highly regarded by colleagues as a compassionate leader.
