Haematology Cancer Care, UCLH Charity

Haematology Cancer Care (HCC) is the charitable arm of the Blood Diseases (clinical haematology) service at UCLH, the largest of its kind in Europe with more than 200 specialist nursing staff, nearly 30 consultants and a large multidisciplinary team of expert support staff. The charity brings together haematology patients, families, supporters and staff to raise funds for the service. It uses the money to improve the experience of haematology patients and their families at UCLH, providing vital medical equipment, additional training for staff and a variety complementary therapies for patients and families.

The amazing Jules Mountain

Aftershock is the inspirational book by Jules Mountain, an ex patient who climbed Everest following his treatment at UCLH. Copies are available from the HCC Office on the 5th floor Garden side and online ( £9.99 ). Part of the proceeds going to Haematology Cancer Care UCLH Charity.

Amazon reviews:

“Fabulous read, Jules Mountain's actions after the avalanche restore faith in humanity”.

“Very funny in parts, terrifying and sobering in others and all the while I was rooting for him to summit. What an impressive bloke.”

“Gripped from the first paragraph. I saw Jules Mountain on BBC news and had to read his book after hearing his story.”

Jules Mountain: Having beaten the odds to survive an aggressive tumour, Jules Mountain decided to sell his businesses and concentrate on fulfilling a life-long ambition to climb Everest. He cheated death again when he was in the group of climbers who survived the avalanche triggered by the 2015 earthquake.

Jules said ‘I thought the book might inspire people at UCLH that are having treatment - I know it would have inspired me if I had heard that a chap had had treatment and then climbed Everest. I would also like to thank the cancer team at UCLH for their fantastic treatment and the UCLH Haematology Cancer Care Charity which has been a source of inspiration to me.’

HCC Photographer in Residence – Daniela Sbrisny

Over the past few months Daniela has expertly captured the patient journey, and brought to life the impact made by Haematology Cancer Care to the Haematology Unit. We are about to embark on a publication following this journey which will be a valuable resource for new patients.
