Professional background

Katy Burke is a consultant physician in palliative medicine at UCLH. Katy completed her first undergraduate degree in music at the University of Cambridge before studying medicine at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ hospitals. She trained in palliative medicine in Oxford, during which time she also worked as a clinical researcher with the Psychological Medicine Research Group in the Department of Psychiatry.

Katy works with both the inpatient palliative care team and also the Enhanced Supportive Care (ESC) team, who work with patients early in their cancer journey to help prevent and manage the adverse physical and psychological effects of cancer and its treatment.

Research interests

Her research interests include doctors’ experiences of discussing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and improving the psychological care of medical patients.
