Professional background

Dr Marie-Claire Rooney is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Lead for Clinical Governance within the service. She studied medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, graduating with distinction, and completed a BSc in Management with Medical Sciences at Imperial College London. She is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians and an Associate of King’s College London.

Dr Rooney completed her specialist training across leading London centres including University College Hospital, the Royal Marsden, and Royal Trinity Hospice. Her clinical practice spans both hospital and community settings, with a focus on the management of complex pain and other symptoms in patients with advanced cancer and non-malignant disease. She also has a particular interest in advance care planning and the interface between palliative and acute medical services.

Her wider professional interests include quality improvement, audit, and the optimisation of clinical systems and processes. She has led multiple successful projects to enhance multidisciplinary collaboration and improve the quality and efficiency of palliative care delivery.
