Professional background

Dr Maximilian Neun is a consultant in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and critical care transfer and retrieval. He trained at the Central London School of Anaesthesia and was appointed as consultant anaesthetist at UCLH in 2021.  

His professional focus centres on the perioperative management of major complex surgery including upper GI, colorectal, urological, thoracic, bariatric, orthopaedic and emergency surgery. Dr Neun is heavily involved in teaching and training clinicians at UCLH in patient safety, resuscitation, management of major haemorrhage, obstetric and regional anaesthesia, as well as teaching and providing critical care transfer and retrieval medicine at Barts Health NHS trust.  

In 2022, he was awarded the Humphry Davy award by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for his role in co-founding and managing the North Central London Adult Critical Care Transfer Service.  

His commitment to innovation and quality improvement has led him to develop digital aids to assist clinicians in critical emergencies, in- and out-of-hospital.  

Dr Neun leads a multidisciplinary collaboration to improve transfusion safety and clinical outcomes as chair of the Hospital transfusion committee at UCLH.
