Professional background

Dr Salman Haider graduated from Guy’s and St.Thomas’ in 2004 with an intercalated Neuroscience BSc (hons) with laboratory project in axon guidance and a full university blue (Football). He undertook medical training on the Barts and London rotation, acute medical training as a registrar for one year in London before specialising in neurology. He undertook a PhD in Huntington’s Disease, conducting the first UK trial for a potential disease modifying therapy at the UCLH Clinical Research Facility and novel biomarkers (optical coherence tomography). He was awarded clinical tutor of year in 2014.

He is a senior lecturer at UCL and was involved in Distance Learning in Neurology between 2019-2023.

He developed a five-question tool for headache and piloted the UK’s first neurology same day emergency care service in 2020, launching it fully in 2021 and substantiating it in 2025.

He also launched UK first Clinical Video Assessment for Stroke (CVAS) with Rob Simister and developed the training for the programme.
