Professional background

Dr Salwa Kamourieh is a consultant neurologist at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, UK.

She trained at Imperial College London and completed her general medical training in Southwest London, leading to obtaining the MRCP in 2010 and subsequently received a PhD at Imperial College London and completed her residency in Neurology at Imperial College NHS Trust. She became interested in managing headache disorders during her training and took up a consultant post at Queen Square in 2020.

Dr Kamourieh works as a headache and facial pain specialist, focusing on the management of primary refractory headache disorders, including chronic migraine, vestibular migraine, tension-type headaches, and trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias. This expertise extends to the management of intractable headaches and facial pain with neurostimulation.

In addition to working with adult patients, she is also interested in managing headaches in 16-18-year-olds, collaborating closely with the children, their parents, general practitioners, and their schools.

Dr. Kamourieh has a special interest in women's health, working with women at various stages of their lives, from menstrual migraines to pregnancy and through perimenopause and menopause.

Dr. Kamourieh has authored several scientific papers and is actively involved in the ABN Headache SIG, as well as serving on the board of the Anglo-Dutch Migraine Association. She has published multiple papers on headaches and is frequently invited to deliver educational lectures for various healthcare professionals.
