Professional background

Dr Stuart Connal is a consultant in neuroanaesthesia at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (NHNN). His interests include perioperative medicine, education and equality, diversity and inclusion. 

He graduated MBChB from the University of Edinburgh in 2014 with an intercalated BMedSci(Hons) in Pharmacology in 2011. He completed specialty training in the Kent, Surrey & Sussex and North Central London Schools of Anaesthesia. 

Dr Connal completed 12 months of sub-specialty training in neuroanaesthesia at NHNN – comprising specialist experience in complex cranial and spinal surgery, neuroradiology, neurocritical care, and preoperative assessment clinic. He also completed a 12-month Fellowship and MSc in Perioperative Medicine at UCLH and University College London (UCL) equipping him with the skills and experience to lead high-risk perioperative decision-making.  

Dr Connal has a deep expertise in shared decision making which permeates his research, teaching, and service development activities. As an honorary lecturer in the Research Department of Targeted Intervention at UCL, he supports a variety of projects focused on patient-centred care.
