Professional background
Dr Verah Harper was appointed as a substantive consultant in allergy and clinical immunology in 2023. She undertook her postgraduate general medical training in the East of England deanery and higher speciality training at Cambridge University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She has extensive clinical expertise in all aspects of allergic disorders and manages patients over 16 years and adults. Dr Harper has a passion for medical education and completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (University of Cambridge, Institute of Continuing Education) in 2016. She is actively involved in clinical teaching of both undergraduates and postgraduates.
She proudly works as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including medical and surgical rhinology and asthma teams.
Her sub-speciality areas of interest include, but not limited to:
- Immediate and delayed drug and vaccine hypersensitivity reactions
- Hymenoptera hypersensitivity reactions
- Peri-operative anaphylaxis
- Atopic disorders (allergic rhinitis and desensitisation, asthma, eczema)
- Urticaria and angioedema
- Medical education
She has authored a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has also co-authored e-learning modules in allergy for Doctors.net.uk, contributed to oral and poster presentations at both national and international societies representing allergy and clinical immunology.
Dr Harper is dedicated to improving the health of people affected by allergic diseases. She is the departmental lead for audit and quality improvement.
