Professional background

Dr Yasmin Jamil is a Consultant Obstetric Physician specialising in the care of women with medical conditions in pregnancy, including both pre-existing disorders and pregnancy-specific (gestational) syndromes. With a background in acute medicine, she is dedicated to delivering high-quality, equitable care for women with complex medical needs before, during, and after pregnancy.

Dr Jamil graduated in 2006 and completed her higher specialty training in London in 2020. She undertook specialist training in obstetric medicine at St Thomas' Hospital, gaining extensive experience in managing complex maternal medical conditions.

She is the Lead Physician for the NCL Maternal Medicine Network and has been instrumental in developing its outreach clinics, as well as strengthening pre-pregnancy counselling and postnatal follow-up services. Passionate about improving acute care pathways, she has worked to enhance multidisciplinary collaboration and access to specialist care.

Dr Jamil is also deeply committed to education and regularly lectures on maternal medicine topics at regional training programme training days. She revised the Special Skills Module for acute medicine trainees in Obstetric Medicine and is Co-Director of the Maternal Medicine Emergencies MDT Simulation Course, supporting training both within and beyond maternity settings.

Nationally, she serves as the Consultant Physician Representative for the MacDonald Obstetric Medicine Society, is a Consultant Representative on the Joint Committee of the Royal College of Physicians and MacDonald Obstetric Medicine Society, and contributes to the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) Steering Group and the Society for Acute Medicine Obstetric Medicine Interest Group.
