Professional background

Miss Allen graduated from Bristol University in 1998 where she completed her house jobs. After spending some time at Cambridge University, demonstrating anatomy, she returned to London for Basic Surgical Training. She was awarded an MD research degree in stone disease from UCL and went on to specialist urological training on the North Central Thames rotation. Much of her urology training has been undertaken at UCLH, allowing her to acquire broad experience in the complex urological cases treated here.

She has a sub-specialty interest in stones and endourology, specialising in complex surgery on patients with urinary stones and ureteric injuries.

Other roles she is actively involved with include being part of the ‘UCLH Futures’ transformation team as a clinical secondee, a faculty member and examiner for the FRCS Urol Revision Course, as well as a faculty member for our in-house PCNL and ureteroscopy masterclasses. She also has a personal interest in innovation and has recently been granted a formal patent for a safety-based invention.

Research interests

Miss Allen was awarded an MD Research degree from UCL for laboratory based research entitled 'Physico-chemical factors influencing calcium oxalate crystallisation in the urinary tract'. During this time, she also gained a research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

She continues to hold a firm interest in stone disease and is currently leading a project on stone culture media and their respective microbiological yields.
