Professional background

Mr George Attilakos is a consultant in obstetrics and fetal medicine. He has been the clinical lead for obstetrics at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust since 2020.

Mr Attilakos became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2002. He later undertook research in fetal medicine and conducted studies in the field of non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. He was awarded his MD by the University of Bristol for his work. Mr Attilakos then completed his subspeciality training in fetal and maternal medicine at St Michael's Hospital of the University of Bristol.

Alongside managing normal pregnancies, Mr Attilakos has a special interest in the management of multiple pregnancies and high-risk pregnancies. Additionally, he has expertise in all areas of fetal medicine, including performing surgical procedures for fetal complications including congenital diaphragmatic hernia, spina bifida and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Outside his clinical work, Mr Attilakos is actively involved in teaching and has been the RCOG College Tutor at University College London Hospital. He co-developed a national teaching course for operative birth skills for junior obstetricians.

He was a past council member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists representing North London. He is a Member of the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society and the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He is also a steering committee member of the UK Obstetric Surveillance System.
