This page has been written by the adult cerebral palsy and neuro disability team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN).
It is intended for patients, their family and carers who have been referred to our service. It is not intended to replace discussion with your consultant.

The type and severity of symptoms can vary widely and may change over time.
Symptoms can include:
- Learning disability
- Behavioural, emotional and mood issues
- Speech difficulties
- Epilepsy
- Swallowing difficulties, drooling
- Visual, hearing impairments
- Spasticity, spasms
- Weakness of the arms and/or legs
- Uncontrolled movements
- Walking difficulties
- Chronic pain
- Sleep disorders
- Bladder, bowel issues
- Help Bridge the gap during transition from paediatric to adult services.
- Offer Specialist Multi-disciplinary reviews tailored to your needs.
- Provide a long term point of contact for any concerns or queries.
- Help co-ordinate your care with other community services, specialist centres and healthcare professionals.
Please bring the following to your clinic appointment:
- A list of all the medications you are taking (whether prescription, over the counter, herbal, homoeopathic or traditional, vitamins and supplements).
- Your mobility aids or splints.
- Relevant letters from other medical services.
- Your current contact details and GP details.
- A list of the names and contact details of health care professionals currently involved in your care.
You are welcome to bring someone with you to the appointment for support.
The assessment will be carried out by members of the multidisciplinary team, of whom there could be a:
- Consultant neurologist
- Consultant in rehabilitation medicine
- Psychologist
- Physiotherapist
- Clinical nurse specialist
- Speech and language therapist
- Occupational therapist
The multidisciplinary team can then offer advice regarding a comprehensive management plan.
You and your GP will receive a detailed letter about the next steps of your management plan following the assessment. We will also copy the letter to any other healthcare professionals involved in your care; please let us know if you do not want the letter to be shared with them.
Our service is able to offer multidisciplinary, nurse led telephone or individual therapy appointments as required.
By Public Transport
Euston, King’s Cross and St Pancras rail stations are all approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the hospital and have step free access. The nearest tube stations are Russell Square (Piccadilly Line) and Holborn (Central and Piccadilly Lines).

By Car
Please note: Parking spaces in the area can be difficult to find.
Parking – public meter bays in Queen Square and Great Ormond Street. The NCP underground car park is located at the Brunswick Square.
Normal blue badge restrictions apply in Queen Square and streets close to the square. Please check the restrictions of your badge within Camden. There are three disabled bays in Queen Square.

To book transport for your first visit, please request your GP to phone the UCLH transport team to complete a travel assessment form.
For subsequent appointments please phone the UCLH transport team to book directly.

Reclaiming Transport Fares
If you are in receipt of benefits you may be entitled to reclaim transport fares when visiting the hospital for an appointment. Please ask the clinic staff for an attendance form and take this to the appropriate hospital's Cashiers Office. Reimbursement can be made at the time of your visit if you can produce your benefit book. Please ask in your appointment if you require further information.

- Disabled toilets. If you need changing plinths or hoist please contact us directly.
- Wheelchair accessible waiting area
- There are cafés on site on the ground floor of Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine and the lower ground floor of the Chandler Wing, NHNN.
- Interpreters can be booked in advance. Please let us know if you require an interpreter for your clinic appointment.
UCLH is a teaching Trust, and you may be asked if medical or nursing students can observe or assist with your care.
We are also a major centre for medical research. If you are interested in taking part in research projects, ask the person who is caring for you.
If you do not wish to take part in teaching of students and/or research, please tell us when you arrive. Not taking part in teaching or research will not harm your care.
