Routine wait times for treatment
The UCLH Urology department has become aware that the approximate wait time for an appointment displaying on the My Planned Care website is including data relating to cancer and urgent referrals. This is therefore giving patients an inaccurate representation of the approximate wait times for a routine appointment and generating queries from patients.
Please see an approximate wait for a routine appointment for the services available to refer to via ERS below. Please make your patient aware before referring.
General Andrology- 6-9 months
Erectile Dysfunction - 6-9 months
Male LUTS - 9-12 months
Female LUTs- 9-12 months
Reconstruction- 3-4 months
Stones- 6-9 months
Adolescent- 6-9 months
Focal- 4-6 weeks (for non-2ww patients)
Directory of Service updates
The UCLH Directory of Service (DoS) for each specialty has been updated to include these approximate wait times and other important information relating to your referral to each specialty, including inclusion and exclusion criteria and service specific information.
Please refer to the information in the DoS before submitting your referral.
Appointment booking
Most Urology specialties have adopted a “6-week scheduling approach”, where appointments are booked a maximum of six weeks in advance. This is to minimise cancellations and disruption to patient appointments. For this reason, patient’s may be waiting slightly longer for an appointment date, as these are not booked at the point that the triage is accepted. Patients will be communicated to that their referral has been accepted and to await further contact regarding their appointment date.
Referral information
Follow the NCL Primary Care GP pathway for referrals. Referrals will not be accepted if the primary care pathway for the condition has not been followed. Please include evidence of the diagnostic tests completed, interventions trialled and the reason for referral when submitting a referral to UCLH.
For the following specialties, UCLH require a referral form to accompany your referral.
Emis compatible forms for the following three specialities are located under:
NCL Global documents > Urology
Or alternatively word versions can be found at the links below:

Female LUTS: Female LUTS Referral Form
Erectile Dysfunction: Erectile Dysfunction Referral Form
If you have questions about management of a patient’s symptoms, please complete an advice and guidance request, which can be converted to a referral, if appropriate.
If you have queries about a patient already under the care of UCLH, please contact the specialist team the patient is under, who will be able to help resolve your query.
