Work experience – students and young people
Full-time students (16-18)
As a leading NHS teaching trust, UCLH receives many hundreds of requests each year for work experience from students, parents, and teachers across London and beyond. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to support all these requests; we have therefore decided to prioritise work experience placements offered via the following routes:
- Students from selected local state secondary schools within the boroughs of Camden and Islington
- Aspiring medics identified via The Social Mobility Foundation
- Referrals via UCLH staff members.
We also have a very active youth volunteering programme for people aged 16-17 (or 18 if still in sixth form/college). Applicants must live or study in the London boroughs of Camden, Islington or Westminster. All placements are for a minimum of three months. Visit MyImpactPage - UCLH NHS Foundation Trust for further information.
If you are not eligible for any of the above routes, please consider contacting your local NHS Trust to explore other work experience opportunities. For further exploration of NHS careers, the NHS Careers Untapped podcast and webinar series offer insights into diverse career paths through staff stories and career advice. Aimed at young people aged 13-19 and career advisors, each episode highlights the unique roles and journeys within the NHS.
If you are aged 16-18, have been accepted for a placement with UCLH, and have not yet received your paperwork, please contact your designated host or email uclh.
